Community is the oldest answer.

Times are asking more of all of us. But regional communities like ours have always had something that cities can't manufacture: people who know each other, look out for each other, and show up.

Collective House isn't a startup. There are no investors, no subscriptions, and no data to sell. Just a free tool, built by a local, to help this place do what it already does well — a little more easily.

Not-for-profit, by design

Built differently. On purpose.

Built differently, on purpose. Here's what that means in practice.

Free to use. Always.

No subscription, no freemium tier, no features locked behind a paywall. Every tool on Collective House is free for every person on the Sapphire Coast.

No investors. No agenda.

We have no shareholders to satisfy and no growth targets to hit. Decisions are made by the community, for the community — full stop.

Your data stays yours.

We don't sell your data, profile you for advertising, or share your information with third parties. Your account exists to help you connect — nothing else.

Sustained by community.

Running costs are covered by optional donations, local business sponsorships, and community grants. Costs are low and transparent.

What "not-for-profit" actually means here.

Collective House will be registered as an incorporated association under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009 (NSW). That gives us a separate legal identity, an ABN, and eligibility for community grants — while keeping governance simple and local.

Any surplus from donations or sponsorships goes back into running and improving the platform. No money is distributed to founders or members. The association is governed by a small committee of locals with a publicly available constitution.

NSW Incorporated Association To be registered under the Associations Incorporation Act 2009.
No profit distribution Surplus funds are reinvested into the platform and community.
Grant eligible Once incorporated, eligible for FRRR, NSW government, and community development grants.
Transparent finances Annual financial summary will be published and available to members.

Locals who got tired of being the product.

Every major platform that promises to "connect your community" is built on the same model: your attention is the inventory, your data is the revenue, and your behaviour is the product being sold to advertisers. Facebook groups, Nextdoor, marketplace apps — they are free to use because you are what's being sold.

We're locals on the Sapphire Coast. We've used those platforms, watched them bury community posts under algorithm-driven noise, and grown tired of handing over our personal data just to ask a neighbour if they have spare eggs.

Collective House is our answer to that. Simple tools, no ads, no tracking, no data sold to anyone. You use it, it works, and nothing is taken from you in exchange. Taking back control of how a community connects — and putting that control where it belongs: with the community itself.

We're a small founding committee of locals, run as a not-for-profit association. No office, no investors, no agenda beyond making life on the Sapphire Coast a little better connected.

"We built this because we wanted a tool that works for us — not one that works us. No ads, no tracking, no algorithm deciding what our community sees."
Built by a local, for locals — not by a company for its metrics.
Governed by a community committee with a public constitution.
Designed to run on under $3,000 a year — deliberately lean.
Scalable to any regional community with no changes to the code.
